| Compassion & Choices is a
nonprofit organization which works to improve care and to expand
choices at the end of life. Its vision is for a society where
everyone receives state-of-the-art care at the end of life,
and a full range of choices for dying in comfort, dignity, and
control. It is committed to providing accurate information on
end of life issues to the general public, to health care professionals,
to legal professionals, to lawmakers, and to the media.
Compassion & Choices was formed in January, 2005 when
two predecessor organizations, Compassion In Dying and End-Of-Life
Choices, combined to form one organization concerned with
providing terminally ill patients with compassion, including
efficacious palliative care, and choices, including physician
assisted suicide. With more than 50,000 members and donors
and with more than 90 local meeting groups across America,
Compassion & Choices is in an excellent position to provide
education to legislators and the general public as well as
support services to terminally ill patients and their families.
Visitors to the Compassion & Choices website can obtain
copies of current advance directives to physicians such as
"Durable Powers of Attorney for Medical
Care" and "Living Wills"
for the states in which visitors reside.
