As of mid-September, an initial search of nchi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed via the National Library of Medicine produced several interesting citations and abstracts, e. g., "Influence of population density on antibiotic resistance" and "Population density and childhood leukaemia." However, while each study suggests linkage between population density and the studied health problem, as one of the abstracts states, "other interpretations are possible." In short, we have not located a study which a lay person can understand and intuitively accept, e. g., "Sneezing on crowded subway cars is more dangerous to public health than sneezing on nearly-empty subway cars."

If you have a special interest in or information about the relationship between public health and population density, please click on the "Contact Us" button, above, and tell us about your interest and information.
