This scorecard is not intended to criticize or to engender criticism of
environmental organizations with little or no involvement in the
population-environment arena. Some worthy organizations, such as Nature
Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund, are heavily involved in land acquisition
or international environmental work and have less opportunity to apply
resources to the population-environment arena.
This scorecard is intended to assist those who primarily want
to support those environmental organization which are
involved in the population-environment arena. It should help
those individuals and foundations determine where to invest
their time and their money. The Scorecard measures five areas
of potential involvement:
Does the organization have a written policy statement acknowledging the
connection between environmental degradation and population growth and, if
so, does it communicate that policy to its members?
Does the organization have personnel assigned to implement its
population-environment policy and, if so, what are their assignments?
Does the organization have a website home page which supports its
population-environment policy and, if so, how easy is it for users to find
population-environment pages and entries?
Does the organization utilize its publications to members to relate
environmental degradation to human population growth and, if so, how
consistently does it do so?
Does the organization engage in joint efforts with population stabilization
organizations and, if so, how often and with how many?
